A systematic approach to feed and food ingredient safety from collection and transport to storage, trading and manufacturing.

As feed and food ingredients travel from farm to fork, the food safety must be ensured.

The European Feed and Food Ingredient Safety Certification (EFISC-GTP) Code takes steps to safeguard product safety and quality. Adherence to the EFISC-GTP scheme demonstrates a commitment to feed and food ingredient safety throughout the value chain.

What is the European Feed and Food Ingredient Safety Certification (EFISC-GTP) Code?

The EFISC-GTP schemes provides guidance on how to establish and implement a feed or food safety management system in accordance with relevant EU and national legislation. The schemes include requirements for:
  • the management system
  • (operational) prerequisite programmes
  • risk control (hazard analysis critical control points)
  • documentation
  • withdrawal
  • traceability

The scheme is applicable to traders, transporters, storage keepers, collectors and manufacturers.

The scheme includes sector specific documents developed with the support of the European feed/food ingredient sector organisations COCERAL, FEDIOL, Starch Europe, EBB and Euromalt.

In the framework of the 2005 EU Feed Hygiene Regulation encouraging sector organisations to develop sector guides to good practice on hygiene and HACCP principles, the guides for European starch industry (Starch Europe), the European oilseed and protein meal industry (FEDIOL) and the European Biodiesel Industry have been endorsed by the European Commission and the EU Member States in the Standing Committee on Plants, Animals, Food and Feed.
