Arkema - Sustainable Castor assessment
Arkema is a founding member of the Pragati initiative to drive sustainable castor oil farming in Gujarat, India, where 80 percent of the world’s supply of castor beans is produced. Since 2016, Arkema and its partners, BASF, Jayant Agro-Organics Ltd., and Solidaridad, have worked to educate and certify farmers to help: use good agricultural practices to increase yield, and therefore, income; efficiently use water resources and maintain soil fertility; drive adoption of good waste management practices; and enable enhanced health and safety practices and human rights.
The company's Marseille site is responsible for the production of amino 11 and other castor oil by-products, and its Serquiny site is responsible for the production of polyamide from the amino 11 produced in Marseille. Arkema, France is the first site to be certified under the SuCCESS sustainable castor certification which was done by DNV France and supported by Lead Auditor, Technical review and certification from India and other coordination done by DNV France.
The audit was a multi-site audit which covered Arkema France Head Office and manufacturing sites at Serquigny and Marseille. The audit was cleared successfully by the organization and SuCCESS Certificate was signed and issued by DNV India which was released on 8th April 2022.
On receiving the news Mr. Prakash Tikare, Area Manager IME (DNV-SCPA), quoted: "Castor producers may not be large in numbers, however this service supports our strategy and widen our offering in SCM and Assurance.
