Boston based Cape Wind is developing America’s first offshore wind farm on Horseshoe Shoal in Nantucket Sound, offshore Maine, Massachusetts. The project, counting 130 wind turbines, will produce up to 420 megawatts of renewable energy, enough to cover three quarters of the nearby Cape and Islands’ electricity needs.

“We are pleased to be able to contribute to this project, making the genesis of the US offshore wind energy development successful,” says Kim Mørk, Director of Operations of Cleaner Energy in Division Americas and Sub-Saharan Africa.
DNV will provide Certified Verification Agent services related to the project. The scope of work covers the substructure, carrying the rotor-nacelle assembly, meaning that for the wind turbine generator itself a type certification will be obtained under a separate contract. While the contractual partner for the work is Cape Wind, DNV will work on behalf of Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement.
