DNV+classed+offshore+supply+vessel+delivered+from+Bharati+Shipyard

India's leading private shipyard, Bharati Shipyard Limited recently delivered the quintessential Rolls Royce UT 755 LN design Platform Supply Vessel, Malaviya Thirty one, to DNV Class.

"This is our first association with Bharati Shipyard and the alliance has been very rewarding.” - Nishank Bhanu, DNV Project Manager

"This is Bharati Shipyard's first UT 755 LN contract, whose complexity is challenging to any ship builder and hence this indeed is a prestigious contract for us," says Nishank Bhanu, DNV Project Manager, adding, "More importantly the ship was constructed in three comprehensive stages involving hull fabrication at Bharati Shipyard in Ghodbunder and then towed for outfitting to Bharati Shipyard in Ratnagiri and then eventually brought to Mumbai for final commissioning and trails.”

State of the art vessel
The Malaviya Thirty One vessel built by Bharati Shipyard was delivered to India's prominent integrated offshore oilfield services provider, Great Offshore Limited on 31st Dec 2010. The offshore vessel is built to DNV's Clean and Comfort class notations...making her a sturdy vessel equipped to reduce risk of emissions to sea & air and outfitted to control the internal environment of the vessel.

This offshore vessel involved round the clock efforts by officials at the yard and by DNV surveyors who worked diligently on the classification process of the vessel. Nevertheless, Malaviya Thirty One is also integrated with fire fighting and dynamic positioning capabilities making it an all-inclusive power vessel.

Building customer relationship
"This is our first association with Bharati Shipyard and the alliance has been very rewarding. There was a lot of learning and knowledge sharing for both, the DNV team and the shipyard,” says Nishank adding, “This perhaps is our first delivery from Bharati Shipyard but certainly not our last. Presently, we are working with the shipyard on three more vessels which are currently in the making."

Speaking about his association with DNV, Mr. Sarkar, President (Design), Bharati Shipyard Ltd. said that, "DNV’s expertise in the offshore sector and the fact that this vessel is to be operated in North Sea conditions, prompted Bharati to go with DNV." He goes on to say that, "DNV’s team was prompt with respect to the requirements of Rules and Surveys on board. All the more, considering that the vessel is meant to work in stringent environmental conditions…DNV’s notation compliance with respect to environment, comfort etc., will certainly give us a business edge.”

Reflecting on the performance of the current maritime sector particularly after the global recession, Partha Basu, Production Manager (Newbuilding) said that "The market is picking up. Y2009 was a difficult year for us but in Y2010 markets picked up to some extent. Nevertheless we did some good work with shipyards in India in 2010. With the Bharati Shipyard order taking off at the beginning of this year, we are positive that this momentum will sustain."
