In a significant partnership deal with the training arm of the world’s largest shipping companies, DNV Academy in India bolsters its training capabilities.


In an effort to promote maritime education and training in the maritime arena, DNV Academy (India) and Maersk Training Centre (MTC) in Chennai—which is the training arm of the world’s largest shipping companies, A.P. Moller Mærsk Group—lock into a joint partnership agreement to jointly conduct selected seminars, student’s internship, workshops and conferences. "We are optimistic that this collaboration with MTC will allow us to leverage each others strengths and build a large presence in the Indian marketplace," says Mr. N. Venkateswaran, DNV Academy Manager, India.
Synergistic approach
DNV Academy (India) in this joint partnership contract spanning over three years with MTC, will promote the exchange of lectures and trainers in the field of maritime education & training. Additionally, under the ambit of the training partnership, "We plan to provide consultancy in the area of maritime and allied field and share knowledge and training content,” says Venkateswaran.
Venkateswaran points out, "The genius of our organisation lies in the knowledge and expertise of our workforce and I am positive that a collaborative effort with a well equipped training outfit like MTC will help towards strengthening the business even further."

Pilot training
An in-house 2-day pilot course on ‘Maritime Risk Assessment’ was kicked off at MTC’s state-of-the-art office premises. Various topics including legislative & business drivers, hazard identification, risk matrices ranking criteria, costs and benefit analysis, were the main highlights of the course. The training was well received by participants, who gave constructive and valuable feedback.
A positive outlook
"The Risk Assessment public course planned in partnership between DNV and MTC is just in time,” says Mr. Rangachari. Corroborating he said, “The International Safety Management (ISM) statutory body has recently included new amendments regarding Risk Assessment and methodologies of implementation for the Shipping industry and this collaborative course ensures that participants (companies) are compliant with the new amendments and requirements of ISM.”
