DNV Academy recently inked three training contracts with L&T Shipbuilding Limited, the shipbuilding arm of India's leading engineering & construction powerhouses, Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (L&T), to train and develop the organizations graduate and diploma engineers.

“Impressed with DNV’s work in the previously conducted training programs, L&T Shipbuilding continues to choose DNV over other training academies,” says Mr. Venkateswaran, DNV Academy Manager (India). “This indeed is a tall order for us and we will continue to provide and share our shipbuilding know-how with the customer with a determined goal to enrich and develop application and practical skills of the participants in various disciplines of shipbuilding,” he added.

Competent training syllabus
The three courses include the 25day intensive Graduate Engineer Trainees (GET) program which covers essential topics on marine engineering and ship architecture, and the 25-day Diploma Engineer Trainees (DET) course which covers basic elements of ship structure, systems, machinery and equipments. Both of these courses will be held at the state-of-the-art training centre of L&T in Chennai.

Additionally, another 2-week specialized course—‘Naval Platform’—for new joiners at various organisational levels, deliberating on the overview of naval ships & submarines and the naval designs & concepts will be conducted by DNV Academy at L&T. For this program, DNV Academy employs the naval expertise of Ex-Naval Commodore of Indian Navy, Cmdre. S Sekhar (Retd), who is involved with the design, development, and delivery of the Naval Platform course.

“The mood is surely upbeat and we are excited about skillfully spinning out the programs to the participants from L&T Shipbuilding,” says Venkateswaran.

Kick-off training
The opening session began with the roll out of the Naval Platform course which got off to a flying start today. Before the course commenced, Principal Consultant of L&T Shipbuilding, Admiral Praveesh Jaitley (Retd) pepped up the mood of participants with a short motivational speech. At his speech Mr. Jaitley said that the shipbuilding courses conducted by DNV Academy aims to develop trainees with industry specific capabilities, consequently making them competent to carry out the jobs independently.

Manohar, Head-Human Resources, L&T Shipbuilding Limited, adding, “Hence we are hiring and attracting the best talent from the industry at our spanking new shipyard at Kattupalli, which will help us realise our ambitions.”

Furthermore, “We are also providing effective and up-to-date training to new joinees. And for this, we have entrusted the job to an organisation with a global perspective and expertise—DNV Academy which is the maritime training arm of DNV,” says Mr. Manohar.
