In yet another move to emphasise on the advantages of a robust Business Continuity Management System, DNV in India recently spun off its second BCM workshop in Mumbai.
The first Business Continuity Management (BCM) workshop was conducted in Bangalore in Mar 2010 and the recent one conducted in Mumbai is the second one in quick succession. “We plan to do many such workshops covering different metros and cities in India, to ensure operational and supply chain resilience and
organisational survival and recovery,” said Mr. Ulhas Argekar, All India ICT Head (DNV), who was also a speaker at this workshop. Along with Ulhas, Mr. Shamanna Nandakumar, DNV Zonal Head (South zone) and Mr. Keith Prabhu, Associate Director, Advisory, KPMG & Member of Business Continuity Institute also presented at this workshop.
Despite heavy downpour in Mumbai, the seminar received a glowing turnout of Business Continuity Managers, Information Security Managers, and Consultants who represented some of the top companies of India Inc. "To build upon organisational resilience, it has become mandatory for businesses to implement BCM,” says Ulhas. He corroborates saying that, "Today organisations- no matter how big or small they are- are operating in a very risky environment which has the potential to disrupt its normal working schedules. In such cases, it is necessary for organisations to prepare for such events in order to ensure sustainable performance."
Workshop highlights
Highlighting the need for organisations to define business continuity strategies and framework, Mr Nandakumar made a short presentation on the BCM model. He also spoke about DNV’s preparedness to support organisations in their endeavour towards building resilience through customised Business continuity assessment, training and certification services.
In his presentation, Mr Keith Prabhu emphasised on the need for a robust business continuity management system based on BS25999 standard and Business Continuity Institute (BCI) methodology, to enable organisations to always be prepared to face any disaster like situation.
The workshop wrapped up with effective and constructive feedback from participants during the Q&A session. Before leaving the hall, participants expressed their eagerness towards establishing business continuity management processes and certification in their organisation.
