The seminar then got off to a flying start covering pertinent topics on design versus site specific requirements for drilling jack-ups, certification for key staff on MODUs, type approval services & rule updates, and the outlook of the offshore market in India - 2010 and beyond.

The seminar was attended by a slew of key executives representing top notch companies from the offshore sector in India such as ABAN offshore Ltd.; Jindal Drilling Transocean; Essar; Bharati Shipyard; Cochin Shipyard; L&T; Reliance; and Varun Shipping.

In addition to DNV speakers - Svein Flogeland (Oslo), Henning Carlsen (Oslo), Bijali M.P (Dubai), and Sarma Parupudi (Vizag) – “We invited experts in the field of Offshore Services namely Mr. Arun Pushkarna from National Drilling Company (NDC) and Mr. Gavin Strachen from ODS-Petrodata to share their solid know-how on Mobile Offshore Drilling Units (MODUs) and share their outlook on offshore services respectively,” says Vinod Kumar Poimplasseril, Manager Offshore Class (India).

There was active and enthusiastic participation from visitors during the entire event…who asked questions relevant to the current scenario in the offshore sector -specific to India and the world- which eventually resulted in a lot of experience sharing and problem solving. In addition, visitors also expressed their interest on areas of deepwater exploration, conversions & new builds, and suggested that DNV organise seminars on these contemporary issues as well.

“Feedback received from visitors was very encouraging and we are happy with the way the seminar rolled out,” says Vinod. He adds and concludes saying that, “DNV stands to gain much from this exposure, as India is poised to push the boundaries of exploration activities to the deep water, which is precisely where our competence lies. Moreover, further developments in consultancy and advisory services will help us pick-up pace off the eastern seaboard of India stretching all the way to the Andaman’s.
