"The event was positive for us." - Mr. Nishank Bhanu, Senior Surveyor, DNV Maritime, India

DNV Maritime India Surveyor Mr. Nishank Bhanu presented on the workshop theme - IMO PSPC (International Maritime Organisation - Performance Standard for Protective Coating), essentially eliciting the certification requirements and verifying requirements related to meet IMO guidelines.

The main aim of World CORCON 2009 is to provide exchange of information regarding existing and emerging technologies for mitigating losses due to corrosion. "The forum was attended by the who’s who from the Oil & Gas, Infrastructure, Transportation, Automobile, and Material & Composite industries," says Nishank adding, "It gave us an opportunity to profile DNV’s yard coating compliance services based on IMO-PSPC requirements. Nevertheless, DNV was the only classification society representing this event."

At the IMO PSPC presentation, Nishank spoke to the delegation on various topics such as the IACS interpretations, the amended SOLAS regulation, PSPC -VS (Void Space), Guidelines for Maintenance and Repair of Protective Coatings, about the new mandatory IMO statutory requirements applicable to ships in operation and ships under construction, and highlighted DNV’s role as an independent body to verify IMO-PSPC compliance. “At the workshop, I emphasized on the mandatory SOLAS regulations concerning PSPC and laid down particulars of how DNV as a classification society can help verify compliance to the IMO PSPC requirements.”

The presentation was well received by the delegation. Talking about the encouraging feedback received, Nishank says that, “This event was positive for us. We were contacted by representatives from the oil and gas industry, the Indian Navy, and well-known paint manufacturers, who wanted to know more on the topic of IMO-PSPC.”
