Purpose

The IMO draft convention MEPC 58 on ship recycling will require every ship under this convention to have onboard an Inventory of Hazardous Materials.

For a newbuilding, the Yard will normally be requested to provide the Inventory. Manufacturers of maritime equipment will be required to declare their products.

DNV offers verification and Internet publication of products hazardous material declarations. This simplifies the set up of the vessel's inventory, and facilitates a streamlined, verified process to produce such declarations and to make them publicly available.

Benefits

For manufacturers:

  • Improved product visibility and environmental profile.
  • Less project specific requests for declarations.

For yards and ship owners:

  • Easy access to information on declared products.
  • Necessary declarations readily available upon preparing vessel inventory.

Features

Two types of IMO based Declarations are offered:

  • Self declarations
  • Verified declarations

For the verified declarations, DNV will do a third-party review of relevant test reports to confirm the declaration. Self declarations are based on the manufacturer's own statement.

The declarations are available at http://exchange.dnv.com/tari/ and will also be accessible from major Internet portals commonly used by yards, ship owners and manufacturers of maritime equipment.
